New Year of Change at Home

I love the first of the year.  I am always excited to start fresh.  We all want that newer, better version of our lives to start now.  Unfortunately, good intentions too easily get overwhelmed.  I can just imagine sitting on the custom banquette pictured. We created it for the small West U Bungalow…a nice place to dream and make a plan for the new year.  I have listed 4  steps I take each year to reach new goals that easily apply as “resolutions for your home”.

First, take time to DREAM. What does your dream space look like? How does it feel? Spend a few minutes walking from room to room making notes of changes you want. Map out a plan for a year of improvements. DREAM BIG DREAMS. Don’t just think about organizing your closet…dream of what that closet will look like.

This closet from the movie set of SEX AND THE CITY shows a closet we all could dream about. Did you know closets hold clues to who you’ve been, who you are, and who you dream of being?

Second, embrace a quick, easy change like painting a door, getting a few new pillows, or moving furniture around. Third, reorganizing and shed. Reorganizing gives you access to what’s most important. The shedding process reveals what you can’t live without. When you’re unsure of whether to part with something, ask, “What has more value, this object or the cleared space?” Then say “yes” to the best and watch shedding transform your life.

Finally, now that you have a clean, fresh room like this one with pops of red as shown in Elle Decor… Add a splash of red to your space. This could be a lampshade, some flowers, a pillow, a rug–any pop of red will be magical. Red is the one color that is used on special occasions throughout the year. Red is so uplifting it will energize you and carry you into Valentine’s Day and Beyond.

Enjoy!
