Spring Break Decor
It is time to take a break from the winter boredom of “same old same old”. Pull back the curtains, let the light in, roll up the rugs, and dust off the drab and gloomy. Start a renewal, or rebirth if you will, in your home or work place. Here is my short list of how to go from boring to fantastic with a few quick changes.
Window Treatments–from curtains to drapes, shutters, swags or laser cut valances–can bring exciting changes to any space. Dressing windows with an eye to the details has gained attention again. Don’t just hang up something. Customize it and bring new flair into your room.
Boring walls? Whether you paint or paper, take action to update your walls. Creative ways to paint walls can range from textures, to horizontal stripes, to large custom murals, as seen in this photo of our clients office. The large wall mural was created from a photo they had in their collection. These innovative walls are an expression of high energy and were exactly what the client wanted to reflect their company colors and pride.
While custom paint is great, don’t overlook wall paper. Papers are hot right now and will be for years to come. Gone are the days of grandmother’s wallpaper with small and boring prints. Today we find large, bold choices, some of which are actually vinyl and extremely durable. Exciting designs such as the one created by Hunt Slonem for Kravets include color combinations, digital photos, many textures from grasses to linen weaves, and even metallics.
Tired fabrics need renewing? Custom fabric selection for your individual project is a great way to create a signature statement for your home. For a small investment, you can update a family room with custom pillows or reupholstered club chairs in a fresh new material. Some of my favorite fabric lines can be found locally at the Decorative Center of Houston and the Houston Design Center. With their many “trade only” vendors, your space will have a unique, custom look in no time.
