50 Shades of Gray – for your Home and Office

On an overcast, rainy day like today it is hard not to think about the color gray. With the current release of the movie “50 Shades of Gray” inspired by E. L. James’s book, it seems everyone is talking even more about all those amazing shades between black and white. While I haven’t read the book or seen the movie, I have always been inspired by the endless possibilities gray’s palette offers.

This first photo is of a wonderful cozy master bedroom in our West University Bungalow project. The owners find beautiful gray tones relaxing and soothing. We use different shade of gray throughout their home, as seen in this kitchen breakfast nook. Not only is gray a perfect color for your home, it also works well in an office environment. A few favorite colors for the work space–as featured above in this modern office reception area–include Sherwin Williams “Popular Gray” SW6071 and the hot color “Coral Reef” SW 6606.

Currently I am working on a project using a wonderfully rich dark gray for a home office. Wall color is “Amber Slate” CW-685 by Benjamin Moore, with “Bruton White” CW-710 by Benjamin Moore for the ceiling, finishing the trim with “White Dove”. I can’t wait to share the finished photos, we will be adding surprising accents to the wonderful mix of antiques and modern furniture.

As I was thinking of Gray (or is that Grey)? I found myself looking up how to spell the word we are all obsessed with. It is actually correct to use both spellings, as “gray” is used in America while “grey” is used mainly in England. I have also debated the spelling of “theater” vs. “theatre”, but I know both are correct. I enjoy spelling theatre with the “re” for a bit more drama. Consider exploring the color gray in your home or office. No matter how you spell it, the results will be a dramatic fashion statement guaranteed to please.

Enjoy!
