Orange County Design

It’s not a surprise that I felt very inspired by my recent trip to Orange County, California. I was overwhelmed by the beautiful beaches, the incredible art culture, the food, and of course O.C. design.

When one thinks of Orange County design, you think of homes centered around bringing the outdoors in. Some homes may have a view of the ocean, a lake or rolling hills. But the view is everything. Retractable doors and windows without treatments are found in many homes to showcase the view. The outdoors become part of the aesthetics of a living space.

While Southern California living incorporates an array of design styles, California Coastal is the style typical of Orange County. The minimalist style of California Coastal, while still comfortable and charming, has a more tailored look. This design consists of super clean lines with a white backdrop and pops of color. The use of simple white or light colored walls allow the structure of the home to breathe and creates an uncluttered, clean feel. The use of light colored woods, like the color of driftwood, and linen fabric add warmth to a space. Designers and homeowners create a minimal and very chic, but inviting environment.

OC Clean and Fresh

Uses of natural elements as seen in this photo from the Orange County Philharmonic House Of Design are a constant design element you will find in OC Design. Taking these elements and playing with them in our own homes is a great way for us incorporate nature and add a fresh update.

Dining at Javier’s in Crystal Cove is a must when visiting Orange County not only for the gourmet mexican food, but also the decor and architecture are a feast for the eyes. Javier’s is located on a bluff on the famous Pacific Coast Highway overlooking the ocean. Gorgeous homes are dotted above on the cliffs of this stretch of The Newport Coast and provide a beautiful backdrop to the setting. One will be very inspired by the views, the interior design and architecture of the restaurant. The grand hacienda style of the restaurant incorporates high ceilings and is adorned with beautiful metal lanterns in every room. And did I mention they make a mean cucumber margarita?!

Enjoy!
